Sharing your bio with someone who is meeting you online for the first time can be eye opening.
Here is a bio that was shared with me by email in anticipation of a recent teleclass. What I did upon receiving it was check out the website and see what more I could learn to help bring an even more compelling, credible story. My goal was to search for the stunning results, the sassy sound bites, the succinct stories, and the social information to help ideal clients connect with this individual.
Here you will see the “before” bio provided by the teleclass guest and the “after” bio I created by skimming the website looking for the pearls. Please note that I never spoke to this teleclass guest. I upgraded her bio just by reviewing the content she made available on the web. Most prospects don’t want to go hunting for all the good information. After all, you only get one time to make a first impression. My belief is you should tell your best story without having to ask people to look for more information.
In the “Before” bio, the client only shares her first name. She doesn’t immediately make clear who her target audience is. She states what she believes, but she doesn’t offer proof from happy clients or the media that she delivers what she promises. Stunning results are missing. She also doesn’t mention whether or not she is happily married as proof that she is successful following her own advice. The bio doesn’t make clear the primary ways that clients can engage with her. The “after” bio addresses these missing pieces.
