We all have mentors who have shown us the way to becoming who we are.
It should come as no surprise that Oprah Winfrey is one of my favorite mentors for so many reasons.

Another of my favorite fictional role models was the character played by Mary Tyler Moore in the 1970's show by the same name.
She turned the world on with her smile, tossed her hat in the air to inspire millions more to do the same, and she was a gal making it on her own in Minneapolis, giving young girls inspiration that they could, too.
Growing up in a household with only one parent who worked (and not very often because he was an actor who was auditioning a lot more than he was working), I was inspired.
I wanted to be able to control my own destiny and drive my own life forward, with or without a man by my side.
Oprah was a huge fan of Mary Tyler Moore, too.

When it was time to release the first and second editions of the Bye-Bye Boring Bio Workbook, guess what date I chose?
September 8, 2009 and September 8, 2010.
The release of both editions of the workbook in the aftermath of Great Recession put my name on the map in a big way as the Business Bio Expert.
That expertise helped me create a whole new business based on that expertise supporting speakers, experts, and authors to make their bios brilliant for client attraction and guiding them to take other inspired actions to get known and get paid.
At a time when paying the mortgage was a challenge, I've been so grateful that those early workbooks met a marketplace need, while allowing me to keep the house, send my son to college, and create a good life with my husband.
Readers of the earlier versions of my workbook still write to me to say what an impact they made.
Creating products of lasting value is important to me.
