What a great time was had by all at yesterday’s Eye on Design 2010 event at Seattle Design Center featuring special guest speaker David Bromstad, HGTV Design Star and Color Splash Host. Over 900 guests attended, which is twice as many as last year. Bromstad delivered a powerful message about following your passion and stepping into your life’s work. He was as engaging in person as he appears on TV, and the fans were excited to have their photos taken with him and watch him paint two custom canvases to be donated at the upcoming auction for Rise ‘n Shine. As a designer/blogger, I enjoyed David’s specific tips to the audience questions. Often his approach wasn’t all about color.
David illustrates how a diverse work experience provides big opportunities. Plus he expected to work hard and take risks.
So pleased this was such a big success for the Seattle Design Center.

I really appreciated David’s design slides – he comes to creating interiors from an artist’s point-of-view. His personal story and diverse work background really illustrates how everything you do in life builds upon the experiences of your past – and that they all contribute to what you do and how you approach your projects. Who knew that working behind the scenes for Disney would result in being in front of the camera on HGTV, sharing design passion and inspiration with millions of viewers? Great story, and his ‘Don’t Give Up’ message was neat to hear.
Nancy I was there! And this event was truly a whole lot of fun. Not only were there other beautiful and fascinating people in the audience, there was a spirit of creativity that birthed a lot of energy.
David Bromstad was fantastic! He was truly authentic, engaging and such a cutie! I thought what he had to say about following that passion, pushing against what the critics (and father) said to get to his dream was a lovely story. I personally appreciated his clarity around his beliefs and who he truly gives the credit to for his success!
