I had the privilege to provide public relations services to Matthew Ferry and Thach Nguyen a few months ago as they prepared to bring their Mental Journey to Millions event to the Seattle Westin on June 22-24, 2007.

Through the power of the media and the advocacy and support of a lot of very committed people, we attracted 1,000 people to attend this inspiring event that shows people how to start living the lives of their dreams right now.

This event guides its guests to identify what is stopping them from living the lives they love to live and inspires them to get into action to achieve their dreams. A big idea they talk about something they call The Contribution Game. It is a new way of networking that focuses first on contributing to others before serving yourself. That is a powerful idea!

If you’ve grown tired of the standard networking approaches and want a new way to proceed, follow Matthew and Thach’s recommendations for a new way to play.

1) Set your intention.

2) Forget about your intention.

3) Find out what other people want.

4) Ask questions such as:

What are you up to lately?

What are you committed to right now?

What projects are you involved in?

What are you trying to accomplish right now?

What do you need help with?

Where are you stopped in your life?

Then, offer help on the spot in the form of ideas, information, phone numbers of people who can lend a hand, solutions, inspiration, empowerment, and encouragement.

By listening carefully and connecting deeply with others, you offer a priceless gift that will be remembered long after the conversation has concluded.

Matthew said, “Stop pushing your agenda and start making a difference.”

Whether you are making new connections at the next networking event or seeking to build relationships with people in the media so you can earn the influence to have your story travel far and wide, those are fighting words that will serve you well.

Matthew and Thach are bringing the Mental Journey to Millions event to the Hyatt Regency Irvine, CA September 28-30 and again to Seattle, WA at the Convention Center January 18-20.

My good friend and valued client Kristen Marie Schuerlein of Affirmagy attended the Seattle event in June, and she had this to say:

“Matthew and Thach rock! Their honesty and genuine desire to contribute to others is inspiring. give yourself the gift of MJM.”
