Bylined articles are one of the hardest working tools in the do-it-yourself publicity tool chest to help build awareness of your expertise and perspectives and be of service to others who can benefit from what you have to share. And, the topics of business, investment, and finance are hot, Hot HOT.

If you’ve got expertise, tips, and perspectives to share that would be on target for the readers of the Puget Sound Business Journal, now is the time to make your article pitch to Special Section Editor Steve Goldsmith in consideration for the April 3, 2009 special section on this topic.  His email is sgoldsmith@bizjournals.com.

DIY Publicity Tip: Make clear as you share your article idea how your perspective will add value for the readers, help them solve an urgent problem that requires a solution, and/or help readers navigate better than ever during these challenging times.  Be sure to offer within your email pitch convenient links to your online press room, your credible and relevant bio, and other support — such as links to other quality articles you’ve written to prove your writing skill or other media appearances that make inviting you to contribute a winning decision.  The Puget Sound Business Journal only accepts content you create exclusively for their use, so keep this in mind.

Remember, your pitch is likely one of scores and scores of ideas this editor will consider.  If you are serious about earning the ink, close your email with this sentence, while providing your email address and telephone number.

I will follow up with you by phone in a few days to check your interest in this story idea, unless I hear from you first.

Then, pick up the phone and follow up if you don’t hear from him.  You won’t earn the ink unless you take the steps to get what you ask for.   Seems simple enough.  Now, the key is to get into action.  Are you game?

If you need more help, consider purchasing my “How to pitch an article idea the media can’t resist” special report #2 for $10.  This report shows the steps to take to earn your own bylines in your hometown business journals, trade magazines, and local press.  It even includes an engaging worksheet that makes it fun and easy to brainstorm winning article headlines that are sure to capture attention.  And you can certainly sign up for the next Winning Bio Writing Workshop taking place April 24 at the Village Bellevue.   Your do-it-yourself publicity efforts will be well served by this tool and this training.  Of that, I have no doubt.
