Last night was the big Nellie Cashman/Member of the Year banquet to honor women business owners. I had two minutes to tell my story to 300 people in attendance, and the warm reception I received from the audience was a powerful cue that my message was on target.

I am going to tell you a little story about love, the power of intention, the law of attraction, and the happily ever after now in progress.Ten years ago, my husband Steve and I welcomed our son Kyle to our family. One look at Kyle and I knew I had to find a way to escape from cubicle nation and blaze a trail as a business owner so we could have the kind of family life I was dreaming of. When Kyle was three years old and with Steve’s full support, I launched my PR and marketing communications company. My intention was to help winning companies tell their stories and build their brands. The law of attraction immediately went to work. Soon, I was working with queens and kinds of Puget Sound industry. People like Carol Nelson, president and CEO of Cascade Bank, Art Oberto of Oberto Sausage Co., Alice Cunningham, founder of Olympic Hot Tub Co., and Kristen Schuerlein of Affirmagy. These fine clients generously have given me access to their stories and their authentic, winning ways so I could bring them into the media spotlight. Their big ideas, passion, integrity, and discipline have helped shape my own path as a business owner, and the wisdom they have shared has been priceless. Then, about 18 months ago, I had a very big idea of my own. What if I took my publicity know how and created a tools to make it easy for small businesses with great stories to tell and little budgets to earn their own publicity? That idea inspired me to create the Authentic Visibility Publicity Toolkit. Now, business owners across America are building the buzz and thanking me for sharing insider secrets that support their success. I am teaching business owners to fish for their own publicity to they’ll never be hungry again. And, their success means that they are buying better groceries and so much more. It’s a beautiful thing! I am grateful to every client here and beyond who has given me the opportunity to contribute to her success through the work that is my joy. I thank Karan Dannenberg of Karan Dannenberg Clothier (in Belltown at First and Bell) for showing me the feminine power of a sassy silk dress and a sexy pair of shoes. And I think Steve and Kyle for encouraging me as we’ve nurtured the growth and prosperity of our little company to support our own happily ever after. Finally, after working with passion and commitment to help others get seen, heard, and celebrated for their winning ways, I thank WBO, the judges, and all of you for honoring me tonight. Thank you.

I did not win the Member of the Year award, yet I won the hearts and minds of those in attendance by making gracious, brief remarks. I feel great about it, and I know many wonderful outcomes will flow from having the opportunity to tell my story.
